MIT Student Veterans Association

This group is to provide outreach to foreign and domestic MIT community veterans, active duty service members, national guard, and reservist.

We advocate on student veteran issues as well as provide a community for socializing.

Major Accomplishments:
1. Having Student Financial Services recognize veterans as independent students for financial aid.

2. Office of the First Year transfer student veteran dinners and orientation.

Ongoing Initiatives

1. Pursuit of MIT to adopt Department of Education "8 Keys to Veteran Success"

2. Pushing for MIT Administration creation of a Student Veteran support office and staff.

3. Helping students navigate financial aid.

4. Advocating for widespread adoption of GI-Bill and Yellow Ribbon for both undergraduate and graduate students.

5. Facilitating better coordination of care between MIT Medical and VA healthcare.

6. Creating MIT Housing options to accommodate veterans.

7. Recruitment - Gathering more international, national guard, and reserve members.
